ENVE GRODEO AND
BUILDER SHOWCASE

June 20-21, 2025 was Enve's Grodeo event, a weekend celebrating all things Enve at their headquarters in Ogden, UT.  The weekend events provide retailers from around the world an opportunity to come together for a glimpse into the manufacturing processes, and the people and the products that make Enve who they are.  The weekend celebration features a demanding 92-mile gravel-ride and a Builder Round-Up featuring bespoke bikes from Enve's builder partners.

Velosmith collaborated with Mosaic Cycles (Boulder, CO) for this year’s Builder Round-Up to build a gravel bike fitting of the Grodeo course.  The Mosaic GT-1 i45 was chosen for its ability to accommodate a 50mm gravel tire and its integrated cockpit, hiding all cables and delivering a streamlined, clean aesthetic - perfect for a show bike.

The GT-1 i45 stands out due to its beautiful paint scheme.  Mosaic has a special category of paint called the Artist Series.  This year, 2025, marks the seventh year of the Artist Series and this year's scheme is called Nebula. It is a multi-stage finish that incorporates a two-color fade and a range of top-layer colors making each frame a 1 of 1.  Our paint request to Mosaic was simple: Nebula, colors inspired by nature and a paint scheme exciting enough to steal the show!

CeramicSpeed provided a number of watt-saving elements, including a wheel bearing kit, bottom bracket and oversized pulley wheels (OSPW), complete with features designed to resist grass and grit from accumulating in and around the pulleys.  Since CeramicSpeed is local to Mosaic, the crew dropped off the OSPW to be painted along with the frame, fork and cockpit.  The result is a constant paint theme throughout the entire build.

With the increased interest in internal cable routing systems, CeramicSpeed has begun making their SLT (self-lubricating technology) bearings to fit a wide range of frames.  In this case, the standard Enve headset bearings had been swapped for SLT bearings making the headset nearly invincible.  Ideal for internal cable routing.

The handlebar/stem combination is Enve's one-piece AR bar system, which is both light and rigid and provides an ideal canvas to carry the Nebula paint.  Bonus points for Mosaic and their decision to include the computer mount in the paint scheme.  After all, a show bike is about the details.

A true standout element of the Grodeo build is the wheelset.  Although technically an Enve wheelset, the combination is not available as an off the shelf option.  The rims are M5 Pro, cross country mountain rims.  More specifically, our Grodeo build uses two rear rims which have a 27mm internal rim width, 2mm wider than any other current Enve rim option.  The rims are also very shallow that do little for aerodynamics, but what they lack in watt savings they more than make up for with their ability to compress and reduce impacts and are ideal for improving comfort and traction on rougher gravel or for longer distance events.  The 27mm internal width pairs well with the 50mm tires used in the build.  We built these wheels in-house at Velosmith.

The strong interest in SRAM's new XPLR group is part due to its simplicity and part due to the wide range of gearing options.  XPLR is a 13-speed, 1X group with chainring options ranging from 38t to 52t.  The system works flawlessly out in the field.  The mountain bike technology provides a durability that lends itself well to gravel applications and pairs beautifully with the road elements like quick, multi-gear shifting and the ergonomics of the Red brake levers.  The XPLR group demonstrates a perfect merger of road and mountain components that yield an ideal set-up for gravel.
