Our process differs from your typical bike shop. It begins with a discussion. Your needs and wants for a new bike are center stage. Velosmith seeks to engineer a solution for your riding needs. Our wide range of offerings allows us to tailor a bike specific to you. What are your riding goals? How do you plan to use your new bike? What type of bike are you currently riding? What elements are on your new bike wish list? Comfort? Performance? Aerodynamics? What kind of terrain do you enjoy riding? Gravel, pavement, or a mix of terrains?
With a thorough understanding of your riding needs and preferences, we can narrow down our options and find the perfect build for you.

Every item we offer at Velosmith is thoroughly evaluated before it becomes part of our offerings. This approach is unique and a testament to Velosmith’s true independence. No sales reps or corporate headquarters are dictating what we offer or how many items we must sell in a given year. Velosmith does not have a bicycle inventory. The bikes you see at Velosmith are representative samples meant to inspire and demonstrate possibilities. As a result, every bike we sell reflects our clients’ needs and never an effort to clear out inventory.

It was a CyclingTips podcast back in August 2016 that prompted the crew at VBS to really dig in and begin experimenting with wider tires and lower pressures. Since then, we have not looked back.

Over the past three decades we have seen the number of cogs on the rear of a bike increase from 7 to 8 to 9 to 10 and now 11 - arguably with 12 on the horizon. As the number of gears have increased the spacing between cogs has decreased. As a result chains are thinner than ever before. Chain wear now happens more quickly.
